 | Figure out a way to streamline ban submissions. There are some that I have been waiting OVER 3 months to get approved (or denied) but it has been taking entirely too long. Maybe a first come first serve or get more people looking them over or something. You have to realize that in the time you are taking to "judge" these submissions that the hackers continue to hack constantly on many many different servers and the whole point to this is to get them off the servers quickly and for good. I think I speak for a lot of server owners here when I say that we trust your judgement, just need to make that judgement faster. Maybe you can make a majority rule so if you have 3 people watching it and 2 out of the 3 think they are hacking then put them on the list and ban them. With the advancement of different hacks now-a-days it is getting harder and harder to tell so if your gut says they're hacking then they are and be done with it. There should be no reason to ever cut off submissions, you all know the average number of bans that are submitted a day, make that your quota and stick to it. I see no reason to EVER have more than 100 submissions in the que. Just my two cents but I (like a lot of people) have grown tired of submitting a ban and then not hearing anything back on it for over 3 months. If that's they way it's gonna be then the whole thing is just about pointless! | |
Before development started, we have already been working on a solution to improve this. However, the problem is not choosing quantity over quality, thus requiring a large amount of qualified staff. The only viable solutions we have been able to come up thus far (as an alternative to having more, less qualified staff) require a lot of coding and are Work In Progress.

Never noticed CoD4 used Steam_IDs?

See Mordekay's explanation, we do however have plans to integrate custom banlists per team (thus AMXBans functionality) into SteamBans, and much more (think SourceBans). Posted: 29/12/07 08:46:33 | Delete | Edit | Quote | Send IM |

We aim to process all submission quickly, but unfortunately there are some subs that take a while due to complex situations involved, i.e. long demos, no maps/models found, admins voting on the sub having trouble agreeing on an outcome, among other reasons.
I am with you, i like to see submission open all the times and demos process quickly, but not always possible.
Hang in there, the light is at the end of the tunnel. Posted: 29/12/07 09:42:37 | Delete | Edit | Quote | Send IM |

 | AMXBans is a software that helps server admins to ceep track on their banlist. About what banlist are you talking here? Ever serverowner/community has it's own banlist, and all those bans have severall reasons, not only cheating.
And there is an edit function....
EDIT and for your first post: read the forums, you will fin the answere to this.

Ah ha, I thought AMXBans was a community similar to this. So I guess it is like SourceBans then which for some reason I think I remember seeing somewhere that you guys are going to implement SourceBans somehow.
As for my first post, yeah, I have read the forums and yes, I have read that A LOT of people would agree with my statement. However, that does not answer my questions, so I guess I am a little confused about what you are telling me to do. Are you saying that I need to read the entire forums here yet again? Pretty broad answer don't you think, maybe you can give me some direct links of the examples you are thinking of, if you don't want to post them in the forum feel free to PM them to me.
Which gives me another idea...why not have an actual live chat section for members to talk to members and try to help out with different things??? That's my next idea for the new website.
EDIT: And I just noticed there is a second page to this forum. Posted: 29/12/07 12:21:02 | Delete | Edit | Quote | Send IM | Edited: 29/12/07 12:24:44 by Schlup |

First, thanks for all your tireless efforts to improve and maintain your systems. Cheaters on my servers have ruined many a good game and I appreciate any and all work you have done to reduce the number of them. I HATE CHEATERS!
Improvements:
Incorporate an global email system that will notify all registered members that a plug-in is not working and whether or not it should be disabled until it's fixed. I've wasted a lot of time determining SBSRC was causing my servers to crash when there were problems with it, only to find out that people at STEAMBANS knew about the problems but never told anyone before they spent hours troubleshooting. Along with that could also be a "STATUS" system on the homepage showing the status of STEAMBAN systems and whether or not they're up and running, if there are problems, and what the fixes are.
The only other thing I'd like to see from STEAMBANS is for Detox to actually block the freakin' AIMBOTTERS and WALLHACKERS!! They are killing my DeathMatch Server and there's nothing out there that can stop them!
Thanks again for everything!

it would be really cool if non admins could type sb_report in server and have it add steam id and reason and person who reported it to the website for review. sure I have alot more but its late ill think of some more. Posted: 03/01/08 05:26:52 | Delete | Edit | Quote | Send IM |

Joined: 31/01/08 Activity: | Uh, just a suggestion for the forums/website when you come to releaseing steambans 2.
Like all good forums, the abillity to watch threads and have an email notification sent out when a reply is made. The same for the messenger, or have an info box informing us of a new IM (I'm unsure if this is already implemented). And, well lastly, abillity to link to certain replies within threads. I'm sure there are many more forum functions missing that would be handy, but these are the ones that have been bothering me over the past few days.
Thanks,
[EoE]SniperFodder
Edit:
Also, abillity to select custom IRC networks for the Team Membership details. For isntance, EoE has it's own IRC netowrk. I am unable to input that IRC Network info as well as which channel the CSS Division idles. Posted: 11/05/08 05:10:30 | Delete | Edit | Quote | Send IM | Edited: 11/05/08 05:17:04 by SniperFodder |

Joined: 28/12/04 Activity: | Steambans v2 will be based on a forum softoware. I don't know which exactly, but i think most of these options are integrated in it allready.
For the irc network...
I don't know if this will be integrated.

- Make links more user friendly !
(I found it confusing at first to have links on the left in the main page, then links on the right side for the user menu, with some page from the user menu having subpages on top of the pages; (and those left menu link from the main pages that are on the top right section of the page too ... )
hmmm..
in the forums pages and reply page -- have a link to the forums rules and write in large fonts :
No posting of steam id's in the forums
No posting of demos in the forums

It will be possible to create a paid service for clan/communities in order to see submissions solved more quickly? I think many of us would buy that service. Or may you add that advantage to the teams who did a annual donation?
I think it would be good for both: to SteamBans and to the people who pay. Posted: 03/01/09 22:21:31 | Delete | Edit | Quote | Send IM |

Joined: 10/09/08 Activity: | I know that you (admins) are an NPO so I suggested to creating a paid service for those who want to buy.
For example: the AVG anti virus has a paid version and a free version.
And I know that there are people who give much value to the service of SteamBans, I am sure they would pay for it.
If you (admins) don't want to have personal benefits, you can always convert the money in donations or make necessary improvements to the SteamBans project.
But I supose you had already spoken on this issue several times between admins.
It was only a suggestion ^ ^
