could you get all the bans up to date and put together a ban.cfg which admins could then upload to there server. The reason i ask this is because to my knowlege if a cheater is caught then the rcon only gives them a temp ban, till the server is restarted?

hence if your server is restarted everyday...

Yeah its a temp ban as that saves complications such as if we retract a ban and if they do join then they will just get removed again which shows when steambans is removing people and tells them sb banned them before removing them as well.

Its very unlikly we'll ever release a banned.cfg as while its easier for server admins it doesnt really benefit the system we run or encourage people be part of the SB community and submit bans.

As Jim pointed out a banned.cfg is simply not flexible enough. By having the scanner doing the work we can completely control who is beeing banned and for how long.

Plus the person banned need to know if a ban is issued by us, or a local server ban, and by having the scanner notifying the server and the person before it kicks him/her is a valueable thing that would be eliminated if the person simply got a message like "your banned on this server" when they try to connect.

I dunno if this helps or not.. or if allowed. If not, my apologies ahead of time.
There is another site that I use. It doesn't work like steambans, in that, it doesn't have a scanner. BUT, it allows u to submit demo's in the exact fashion as you do here and upon acception, the STEAMID is added to a list of BANNED HACKERS that is openly published for you to copy and add to your servers banned configs. It was set up by a group of Admins to help out other Admins to keep their servers "hacker free". The site is called THEBANLIST and is also advertised in the UA and Steam forums. That is how I found it. I submit all my Demo's there too. http://www.thebanlist.com/forums/

Its perfectly ok to link that site Jane, as they are doing the same thing we are, and we have a joint goal of getting rid of cheaters, however I of course cant vouge for their rendundancy systems or their quality assurements measures. The man running TheBanlist is a decent and good guy, however I can only imagine how much pressure he must be in, as I dont think there are anyone really helping him, at least SB has 3 professional coders to do web-dev work.

Thanks DK.. yes, they are getting swamped over there. I have noticed an increase in submissions in the last few weeks. I am glad to see more people getting involved to help
stamp out these "poor-sport" players. They are very nice over there and do their best to review and decide on Demo's with in a day or two of submitting.

LOL... no, I am certain they don't get that many. No wonder you are so slow at deciding on my Demo's. (hahha) I am just razzing you.
800, wow.. and there is only 3 of you ? At that rate, you guys will never get ahead.
Maybe most of the hackers will give up and stay in un-secure servers and then your lives will be easier..
*Dreaming* Oh, sorry, I must have dozed off there for a minute.

A nice dream indeed But I think that there are more than three demo viewers, I think the three people thing was just webcoders, which is pretty impressive

BonziSamuri .. psst Xerox, it's Samuri (heh) not Zamuri.
He is also a "top-dog" at UA.. if I am not mistaken.
That's how I made my way here. UA's BuzzKill told me about steambans
and helped me get my foot in the door.
Watching Demo's can be tiresome, especially if they aren't clear cut "hacks"
ex: spinning or speed hacking or the jerk u 180 degree aimbot.
I always try to get my Demo's in under 5 rounds. The less rounds it take,
the smaller the Demo and less time taken to watch it. Usually, if they are hacking,
a good 3 rounds of play is all it takes to nab them. If the Demo seems to be running
to long.. I will stop it, and start another one. Then I look through both and decide
which is better.

So is there a plugin or such that gives the banned person a message as they try to enter our servers that tells them "You have been banned by SB..."?
