Steambans quality control team on ESL ban
SB Development. Posted by Wook, 19/06/09 13:21:53

Last week stammkneipe.de league admin dani asked steambans.com for a third party review of an ESL counterstrike 1.6 ban. The female player sTani was banned after a 5on5 match for the use of a wallhack. As there were some doubts in the german gaming community steambans.com did an independent review of the demos which lead to this ban. During our discussions about this demo steambans.com protestadmins found no conclussive evidence which would lead to a ban.

With this results steambans.com can't agree with the votings of the ESL anticheating team. Informations about our voting which explains our decision in detail were sent to the player sTani.

We agree that anticheating can't be done without making mistakes but we are very irritated how such a demo could pass a second protest review like it did.

After the Lunatic ban this is the second time we have to disagree with the ESL anticheating team. I personally hope this is the last time.

Submission closed / Bug spotted
SB Development. Posted by Wook, 01/03/09 18:39:04

Hello community,

due to a bug with the submission page we are forced to do a planned submission lock.

For the last three month we got a high amount of cs and cz submission coming in so the backlog was growing and growing. While the submission are closed our staff will focus on all old demos and try to solve all discussions.

The downtime will be last for about a week. We are working hard to reopen the subs as soon as possible.

Important Note:

There was a bug in the submission page today so it's possible that demos that were uploaded on 1st March are lost on our system.
If you have submitted a demo today please save it and message me about it.

HLstatsX Premium supporting SteamBans
SB Development. Posted by Viper, 26/01/09 10:40:12

As we announced a few months ago, we have been working with Tobi from HLstatsX on implementing Steambans detections for HLstatsX premium users. This basically means that besides detecting VAC for a specific player on a HLstatsX server, it will now also recognize if a player is banned by SteamBans and if so, put the player on the cheater list in HLstatsX.

We would like to thank Tobi from HLstatsX.com for his amazing job in making this possible and hope that this will be a good addition for a lot of users from both SteamBans and HLstatsX.

Ofcourse, this has nothing to do with the SteamBans plugin itself, it will only remove the players rank from HLstatsX. If you still want those people blocked aswell you will have to use our SteamBans plugin next to the HLstatsX one.

Expect some more integration features very soon...

Enjoy!

Happy Holidays from SteamBans
Special - Xmas News. Posted by Viper, 28/12/08 15:29:37

As you might know, the SteamBans development team is currently working hard on a brand new plugin for HL1 and HL2 servers, to make things faster, more stable and reliable for the future.

Next to that, Im very proud of the team we had for the past few years and months as they have been working very hard to review the thousands of demo's that are being sent in every week.

And since 2008 is almost over it's time for us to welcome a brand new year with lots of new things to come. SteamBans is still the number 1 anti cheat community for over 9000 Half-Life 1 and 2 servers worldwide and we are proud to be in this position, still after all those years.

You can expect a lot of things to happen from the SteamBans side, as we always strive to continue making our services as good as possible.

The SteamBans team wants to wish everybody happy holidays and a good new year to come! Enjoy!

Steambans progress
SB Development. Posted by Viper, 17/08/08 11:04:29

With this short news bit I wanted to let you all know what we are currently working on and whats in store for the future.

Right now we have a few big things coming soon and one of those things is that we have been working with the HLstatsX team to make servers running HLstatsX automatically detect banned id's from Steambans. Just like their current VAC Cheater list, Steambans banned id's will be added separately and players will automatically be removed from the ranking system. This is currently being implemented and should be ready very soon.

Next to this IceMatrix, Spectral and devicenull have been working on a new set of plugins (version 3.0) which should improve overall performance, faster loading times and some added features (soon to be announced). The team has also been working on some projects that were left in the closet for a long time and hopefully we will see more about that soon.

In other news sslice let us know that there is an update coming for Detox Anti Cheat aswell (source engine based games) which should support the newer Orange box Source engine and some other stuff.

As always, since we all do this in our free time, have a bit of patience and very soon we hope to give you all more details on all of the news above.

Brief site downtime
SB Development. Posted by devicenull, 22/07/08 23:47:01

As our server host is physically moving the server tomorrow, the site will be down for a few hours on Wednesday, July 23, beginning in the morning, and ending some time in the afternoon (GMT+1 timezone).

The pluginservers will continue to run during this, so you should not see any interruptions with the plugin.

Steambans and Sourcebans questions
Articles. Posted by Viper, 20/07/08 09:50:41

Since we get a lot of questions from people all around the world what the difference is between Steambans and Sourcebans I created this small post to explain it for once and for all

SteamBans
Since 2004 Steambans is a global anti-cheat blacklist program that protects HL1 or HL2 based servers from 'known' blacklisted cheaters. When 3 of our trained admins check a sent in demo, and all of them decide it's a cheater, the person will be banned. From that moment on, the cheater cannot join ANY of the Steambans protected servers anymore.

However, before a person gets banned we at Steambans have a pretty high standard of quality checks before we even decide someone is cheating. That's why at least 3 admins need to check each demo that is sent in (with sb_status call) and a fourth Management admin will then BAN or NOT BAN.

How to start? Check this document.

SourceBans
Sourcebans is a ban and administration system for Source engine based servers like CSS or TF2. It basically allows server admins to have their own management system purely for their own servers. Sourcebans allows you to manage your admins through the web interface (powered by SourceMod) and from ingame directly ban players to the banlist, who will then be banned from all the Sourcebans connected servers.

Where to download? Over here.

Conclusion: If you want the ultimate protection next to VAC to protect your server from known cheaters and help the community with catching them install Steambans now.

If you are looking for a banlist application which allows you to also define who is admin on your own servers use Sourcebans.

Both programs work perfectly together as they are written by the same group of people!

Admin ESP Spectate for SourceMod
AC - Steambans News. Posted by Viper, 20/07/08 09:37:44

Our friend Liam from the SourceMod developers group released a handy plugin for Source based servers that run SourceMod which allows admins to spectate a possible cheater and get some handy lasers which basically show where the player is aiming and who is close to him.

Server admins might use this handy small plugin to detect possible wallhackers and other cheaters however please remember that while recording a Steambans demo you must disable this as it can be hard for our admins to checkout someone with all those lasers floating around.

Laser Info:
-White laser is where they are aiming
-Blue laser leads to CT's/Blue Team
-Red laster leads to T's/Red Team
-The thicker the laser beam, the closer they are to your target.
-The thinner the beam, the further away they are.

You can grab the small plugin over here at the Sourcemod forums.

SteamBans back online
AC - Steambans News. Posted by Viper, 13/07/08 15:08:10

Dear SteamBans community,

As you might have noticed we had some problems with one of our sponsors as they shut down our website server and database without notifying upfront. On friday we decided to move everything over to our own servers in the Netherlands (at TechConnect) and things should now be back to normal.

Fortunately most things were recovered instantly and while we are still working in the background to fix the bugs that are still open, we are also preparing for a brand new plugin version very soon.

We also want to thank NuclearFallout, Killercreation, GameServers and TechConnect for their contribution to SteamBans. Without them we wouldn't be where we are now.

Stay tuned for more information and thank you for the patience you all had in the past few days.

Release: SBSRV 3.5.5/SBSRC 2.5.5
SB Development. Posted by devicenull, 25/06/08 01:13:22

Due to some help from a few extra developers (Spectral and IceMatrix), the long awaited next version of the SteamBans plugin is here.

Changes:
  • Fixed pending issue, for good this time
  • Duplicate checks will no longer be added to the request queue
  • Fixed a bug where the DNS cache would be ignored

You can find the downloads for this on the Manage Server page.

NOTE: The pluginservers have changed, if you have sb_server in your configuration file, you need to remove it or nothing will work.

    SteamBans updates
AC - Steambans News. Posted by Viper, 17/06/08 17:38:55

As you may have noticed we have been working on our website to slightly change it's layout and design for better viewing. For new people we have added a handy Protect Your Server link at the top which will instruct them on how to get their server protected.

Work continues on the SteamBans front and some more changes are planned which will be released soon. Next to that the development team has also been working on a brand new plugin for both HL1, HL2 and HL2range Source engine mods which should fix some annoying bugs and hopefully will be released within the next few weeks, after extensive testing.

If you have any suggestions, ideas or feedback, please feel free to post them in our forums.

HackCam resurrected – or is it?
AC News - Hackcam. Posted by elumineX, 30/03/08 09:58:05

A new interview with the developer of HackCam, the famous never-released anti-cheat tool, seems to have popped up on AdminRequest.

We have talked about HackCam before here at SB, but since the last developer interview it seemed that HackCam disappeared completely with the forums going offline and the developer becoming unresponsive. Coupled with the fact that a lot of skepticism has arisen around the truthfulness of the program – after all the only proof released was the famous HackCam demonstration video showing off some questionable HackCam action – HackCam has been considered a dead project for a long time.

Not anymore it seems. The forums are coming back online, and the author seems to be responsive or at least informative once again. Let us hope the project does not go into hibernation as it did the last time a developer interview was posted. We as much as anyone else would like to see this project go live.
